(Photo by Pattarapong Chatpattarasill)The discovery of 14 dead giant freshwater stingrays in the Mae Klong River in Samut Songkhram has sparked suspicions some factories have discharged polluted water into the western region's major waterway. An environmental protection group in Ratchaburi has filed a complaint against a Ban Pong-based sugar factory, believed to have discharged water into the Mae Klong River. “We are working with officials in Samut Songkhram to establish the cause,” said the official, who asked not to be named. “If the freshwater level rises, it can swim to the river mouth and out to sea,” he said.
